Samburu National Reserve
Samburu National Reserve is located in Northern Kenya and is a premier game reserve situated on the banks of the Ewaso Ng'iro river. This vast expanse of remote pristine wilderness measures 165 square kilometers in area and borders the Ewaso Ng'iro River to the south, which separates it from the Buffalo Springs National Reserve. Samburu Reserve is a unique wildlife conservation haven famous for an abundance of rare species of animals such as the Grevy Zebra, Somali Ostrich, Reticulated Giraffe, Gerenuk and the Beisa Oryx. The reserve is also home to a population of close to 900 Elephants. Large predators such as the Lion, Leopard and Cheetah are an important attraction (Kamunyak the famous Lioness that adapted a baby Oryx is a resident in the reserve). Samburu is infact one of the better locations in Kenya to spot Leopard. Wild dog sightings are also a common attraction to this unique protected area and Birdlife is abundant with over 450 recorded species.
Samburu as a wildlife eco system now also comprises a number of conservancies and group ranches bordering the main reserve such as the Kalama Conservancy, West Gate Community Conservancy and Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy. Samburu Reserve is considered among the best wildlife reserves not just in Kenya but also in Africa

Samburu Safari
Samburu National Reserve lies on the fringes of the vast and arid desert once known as the Northern Frontier District, whose heat-scorched scrublands extend all the way to the jade-green waters of Lake Turkana and beyond. Samburu’s diverse fauna includes rare Grevy’s Zebra, Beisa Oryx, Reticulated Giraffe, Somali Ostrich, Elephant, Lion, and Cheetah.
5 Days Samburu, Lake Nakuru and Lake Naivasha Safari Overview
Day 1: Nairobi – Samburu National Reserve
After morning breakfast, leave Nairobi in the morning and drive north through cultivations of sisal and pineapple to the northern frontier district and on to Samburu National Reserve, arriving in time for lunch. After lunch proceed for an afternoon game drive with a chance to see Samburu’s ‘Special Five’- the Reticulated giraffe, the Grevy’s Zebra Gerenuk, Beisa Oryx and Somali Ostrich among other big game like elephant and lion. Dinner and overnight at the Samburu Sopa Lodge or a similar lodge.
Day 2: Full Day Samburu National Reserve
After breakfast, head out for a full day of game viewing drive in this dry semi-arid park with its striking background view of the Mathew’s Range. The surrounding terrain is renowned for rare game, -long necked gerenuk, Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, and the Beisa Oryx. Leopard is the frequent passer-by. Drive through the gently flowing Uaso Nyiro river which traverses this Park provides evergreen vegetation for the wildlife found in this park. Game drives and bird watching safaris are the ideal way to experience the native wildlife in its natural splendor. Dinner and overnight at the Samburu Sopa Lodge or a similar lodge.
Day 3: Samburu National Reserve – Lake Nakuru National Park
We enjoy an early morning game drive in Samburu National reserve and the depart by road to Lake Nakuru National Park. After lunch go for an exciting game drive until 6.30 in the evening. The bird life here is world renown and over 400 birds’s species exist here, White Pelicans, Plovers, Egrets and Marabou Stork. It is also one of the very few places in Africa to see the White and Black Rhino and rare Rothschild Giraffe. Dinner and overnight at Flamingo Hill Camp or a similar camp.
Day 4: Lake Nakuru National Park – Lake Naivasha
Early morning breakfast. After breakfast game en-route leave Lake Nakuru National Park for lake Naivasha. There will be a stop to view the great rift valley scenery as you proceed to Naivasha you will arrive time for lunch, Check in at Sopa Lodge Naivasha and have lunch, Later in the afternoon game drive with a visit to Hells Gate National Park which allows Hiking, Bicycling, Rock climbing and photography of wildlife and a visit to geothermal power plant. Later dinner and overnight at Sopa Lodge Naivasha or a similar lodge.
Day 5: Lake Naivasha – Nairobi
Early morning breakfast. After breakfast leave Lake Naivasha for Nairobi. You will arrive Nairobi in time for lunch. Lunch at carnivore afterwards drop off at your respective hotel or Airport.
